Share Files With Egnyte

Overview

Egnyte is your company's secure file-sharing platform for sending and receiving sensitive documents with clients and partners. This guide shows you how to share a file with a link from the Egnyte web interface and how to control who can access it.

Before You Begin

  • Your Egnyte account is active. If you cannot sign in, contact support.
  • The file is uploaded to your Egnyte folder, or ready on your computer to upload.
  • The recipient's email address.
  • Your company's Egnyte URL (usually https://yourcompany.egnyte.com).

Steps

  1. Open a browser and go to your company's Egnyte URL.
  2. Sign in with your work email and Egnyte password. Approve any MFA prompt.
  3. Browse to the folder containing your file, or upload it now by clicking Upload at the top.
  4. Hover over the file. Click the Share icon (a link symbol) that appears.
  5. In the share dialog, choose Link Type:
    • Anyone with the link: fastest to send but less secure.
    • Recipients only: most secure. Recipients must verify by email before opening.
  6. Set permissions to View or View & Download based on need.
  7. Set an Expiration date. For most external shares, 14 to 30 days is appropriate.
  8. Add the recipient's email and a short note explaining the file.
  9. Click Send. Egnyte emails the link directly to the recipient.

Troubleshooting

• If sharing options are greyed out: the folder may be restricted from external sharing. Contact your folder owner or support.
  • If the recipient never receives the email: ask them to check spam. Resend with the recipient verified at Recipients only for added security.
  • If you need to revoke a link: sign in to Egnyte, click your name in the top right, choose My Links, find the share, and click Delete.
  • If you need to upload a very large file: Egnyte supports files up to 25 GB per upload from the web. For larger transfers, use Egnyte Desktop App.
  • If you receive an "Access Denied" message yourself: you may not have permission to that folder. Contact the folder owner.
