Enable Large Gallery View in Microsoft Teams

Overview

Large Gallery view in Microsoft Teams lets you see up to 49 people at once during a meeting. It is the best layout for group discussions, all-hands calls, and training sessions where you want to see everyone's face.

Before You Begin

  • The new Microsoft Teams desktop app, signed in with your work account.
  • A meeting with at least 10 participants who have their cameras on. Gallery view becomes available once there are enough video feeds.
  • A monitor with enough space to see all the tiles comfortably. A laptop screen will work but feels cramped above 25 participants.

Steps

  1. Join your Teams meeting from the desktop app.
  2. Once the meeting starts, click View in the meeting toolbar at the top.
  3. Choose Gallery for the default layout.
  4. To see more people at once, click View again and choose Large gallery.
  5. Teams will rearrange tiles to show up to 49 video participants per page.
  6. If there are more than 49 people on video, use the arrow controls at the bottom of the gallery to page through.
  7. To pin a specific person so they always stay visible, right-click their tile and choose Pin for me.
  8. To go back to the default layout, click View > Gallery.

Troubleshooting

  • If Large gallery is grayed out: there are not enough people on camera yet. Wait for more participants to turn their video on.
  • If you do not see the View menu: you may be using the old Teams client. Update to the new Teams from the Microsoft Store or ask IT to push the update.
  • If your computer slows down with many video feeds: close other apps, especially browsers with many tabs. Older laptops may struggle with 49 simultaneous video streams.
  • If the gallery layout keeps switching back to a smaller view: Teams remembers your last choice per meeting. Set it again after joining.
  • If you join from a phone or tablet: Large gallery is desktop-only. Mobile shows a smaller grid by design.
