Set Up Outlook on Your Android Phone

Overview

This guide walks you through adding your work email to the Outlook app on your Android phone. The Outlook app gives you mail, calendar, and contacts in one place and works better with Microsoft 365 than the built-in mail apps that ship on most Android phones.

Before You Begin

  • Your work email address and current password.
  • Your Android phone running Android 11 or later.
  • Multi-factor authentication already set up. If you have not done this yet, set up MFA first.
  • A few minutes of uninterrupted time.

Steps

  1. On your phone, open the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for Microsoft Outlook and tap Install. Confirm the publisher is Microsoft Corporation.
  3. When the install finishes, open Outlook.
  4. Tap Add Account.
  5. Type your work email address, then tap Continue.
  6. Enter your password when prompted, then tap Sign In.
  7. Approve the multi-factor authentication prompt on your phone or in the Authenticator app.
  8. If your company requires it, tap Register to enroll the device with Microsoft Intune. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the Intune Company Portal if asked.
  9. When asked whether to add another account, tap Maybe Later or Skip.
  10. Allow notifications when prompted. You can fine-tune these later under the gear icon.
  11. Your inbox loads. Mail, calendar, and contacts now sync to the app.

Troubleshooting

  • If the app cannot find your account: double-check the email address for typos. Make sure you are using your full work email, not a personal one.
  • If sign-in fails repeatedly: open a browser and sign in at outlook.office.com to confirm your password works. Reset your password if needed.
  • If you get a device-compliance error: your company may require Intune enrollment before email syncs. Install the Intune Company Portal app from Play Store and follow the prompts.
  • If notifications do not arrive: check your phone's battery optimization settings and exempt Outlook so the app can run in the background.
  • If your phone shows duplicate emails: remove the work account from any other mail app (such as Gmail or Samsung Email).
