We understand that sometimes legitimate emails may be quarantined by mistake due to various security reasons. This is known as a false positive, and it can happen when an email matches certain criteria that are used to identify spam, phishing, malware, or other threats. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and we want to help you resolve this issue quickly and prevent it from happening again.
Microsoft Quarantine is a feature that helps protect your organization from potentially harmful or unwanted messages. These messages may include spam, phishing, malware, or messages that violate mail flow rules. Depending on the reason why a message was quarantined, you may be able to view, release, or delete it from the quarantine portal.
How to access the quarantine portal
You will see a list of quarantined messages that you are a recipient of. You can use the filters on the left to narrow down the list by date range, sender, recipient, subject, or reason for quarantine.
How to view quarantined message details
To view the details of a quarantined message, select the message by clicking anywhere in the row other than the check box. You will see a panel on the right that shows the message header, sender, recipient, subject, date and time, and reason for quarantine. You can also preview the message content by clicking on View message.
How to release or delete quarantined messages
Depending on why a message was quarantined and what quarantine policies are applied by BMIT, you may be able to release or delete quarantined messages. To release a message means to deliver it to your inbox or another folder of your choice. To delete a message means to remove it from the quarantine permanently.
To release or delete one or more messages, select the check boxes next to the messages you want to take action on. Then, click on Release or Delete at the top of the list. You will see a confirmation dialog where you can choose whether to report the message as not junk or not phishing (if applicable), and where to deliver the message (if releasing). Click on Yes to confirm your action.
Note: Messages that are quarantined as malware or high confidence phishing cannot be released by users. Only admins can release these messages after reviewing them carefully.
How to receive quarantine notifications
You may also receive quarantine notifications by email if your admin has enabled this option for you. These notifications will inform you of new messages that have been quarantined and allow you to release them directly from the email. To release a message from a quarantine notification, click on **Release message** next to the message you want to deliver. You will be redirected to a web page where you can confirm your action.
